This (the original version) will always be the only valid version. He is singing about Pattie, actually having to lie in interviews about what the meaning of the song is. Later he married her then they got divorced. The unplugged version is good as far as musicianship goes but it doesn't have passion. At that point she was just another ex he had to write a check to every month. This is the real thing.

best rock song ever!!! he actually wrote this song for george harrisons wife which he went absolutely crazy for. but out of claptons temporary of loss of mental stableness due to all the drug use came beautiful music.

Derek and the Dominoes came about when a promoter "misheard" the name "Eric and the Dynamos" which was what the band originally was to be called. They were announced/promoted as Derek and the Dominoes and the name stuck, to the point where the record company put out a whole "Derek is Eric" campaign because nobody knew who it was.Although he played on this album, Duane Allman was never actually a member of the group. He was asked to join but declined due to his commitment to the Allman Bros.
