This is embarrassing:)

I really like the dissonant, moody sound of this piece. I agree it can be difficult to listen to, but its definitely eerie sounding.

He has extraordinary control. I'd like to see someone like Vai transcribing and trying to play exactly something like this. He'd be up for the challenge I'm sure! His knowledge of natural harmonics alone could fill a book.

Perhaps In the sense that every marketed genre (which happens to be all of them since as they're recognised they're marketed) falls prey to being tagged and eventually fossilised, therefore creating obstructions to an honest judgement.

I hear you now - I guess the same can be said of any style really. But yeah, Bailey's music was definitely a shock to my otherwise mainstream ears!

I understand what you're saying but I believe that the 'wtf factor' that improvised and contemporary music is often tagged with is mostly uncalled for. It's often used as a marketing ploy and at other times as a derogatory comment so to distance oneself away from the music itself. Bailey might be a shock to naive ears but with familiarity it this wears off and the music is then ready to be truly received.

Muzak - Okay so the "music" did perturb me a little. Perhaps that's the whole point of Bailey's guitar work? Evoking the WTF?! factor to the unfortunate listener? - Hey, it's a reaction isn't it? Better than NO reaction! The wrotweiler remark was out of line - I apologize.
MuzakConcrete (April 29, 2008 at 8:25 am)
Do you have a spare wrotweiler being ready to be bit in the ass by a mosquito when I press the the play button? By the way, there's nothing to get here, it's all there kiddo. If you don't like it and get angry just don't bother.
Betelgeuse3000 (April 29, 2008 at 7:07 am)
There really nothing artistic or interesting about this. Okay, so he can fret notes and pick notes at random and has the atonal thing down but seriously it sounds terrible. Maybe I don't 'get it', but I can tell you for sure that guitar was built for MUSIC not this abstract noise. Go listen to a car horn or a wrotweiler being bit in the ass by a mosquito for that.
