I recently replaced my old desktop machine with a cheap Dell running XP Home edition. I am only using it for internet applications and have my other computer completely separate and protected so my personal files aren’t available online or be subject to being lost.
The new machine has all kinds of anti-spy, etc software that keeps bugging me with the pop-ups. What I am interested in, however, is getting the best software for cleaning up the hard drive when it get’s cluttered up.
I prefer to buy the software on a CD rather than downloading it. I also have the recovery disc from DELL for when everything else fails.
Anyway, what is the best and latest software on the market for cleaning up the hard drive clutter.? And, perhaps, for anti-spy and anti-virus protection
Thanks everyone.

i’ve been using System Cleanup 1.5, which i downloaded from majorgeeks.com
it works excellent for me and my pals, which doesn’t delete some vital program components, unlike the CCleaner, etc.
i highly recommend this feeware.
good luck!

I like CCleaner. You can find it at Ccleaner.com.
It works great and is free! I’ve been using it for over a year.

VirtualPC
Its free and its from Microsoft.
Create a virtual pc on your cheapo dell, configure it the way you want it to be, and then make a master/backup copy of it. Use it for any internet-related activities. When everything gets too gummed up, use the "personality transfer" features of XP to save your bookmarks and settings and such from the gummed up instance, fire up a new copy of the master and complete the personality transfer, and then you’re back on your way.
When you’re sure there’s nothing worth saving/transferring on the old gummed up instance, delete it.
PCcillin, by Trend Micro, is the best tool for protecting your ‘puter and keeping it safe from the internet…much better than Symantec. Install it on your virtual pc before making the master copy.
If you have system recovery disks, use those when you’re creating your virtual pc image.
